Heirloom Chrysanthemums and Dahlia rooted cuttings.

What is a rooted cutting?

A rooted cutting is a clone of the mother plant produced by a piece of stem with foliage from the mother plant. Then put into a medium of some sort to create roots on the stem, therefore creating a new plant.

All of our rooted cuttings are taken from our own mother plants or tubers that have been grown on our farm.

How will my rooted cutting arrive?

When you receive your rooted cuttings purchase from Goose Creek Gardens they will arrive packed with care. Each variety will be labeled and placed in its own bag to avoid any mix up in shipping. Most states will receive rooted cuttings with growing medium on the roots. States such as AR, AL, AZ, CA, CO, ID, KS, MS, MT, ND, NM, NV, OK, OR, SD, TX, UT, WA will receive bare root cuttings, all the growing medium will be washed off.

What is the benefit of growing a dahlia from a rooted cutting?

When growing dahlias from a cutting the plant is already to start growing when planted out in the spring. This allows the plant to bloom earlier than the traditional way of planting tubers. Whereas planting a tuber may take several weeks for the plant to start growing making for a shorter bloom time during the season. Dahlia rooted cuttings do produce tubers during the growing season.

How do I care for the rooted cutting once it arrives in the spring?

When you receive your rooted cuttings in the mail open the box immediately. Pot up the rooted cuttings into a 4” or larger pot right away. This will help the cutting continue to grow before you are ready to plant it out for the season.
