A Mother’s Day to Remember, 20,000 Seedlings, and a Few New Chicks
Thank You for a Beautiful Mother’s Day Weekend
First, I want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who came out to The Flower Shack over Mother’s Day weekend. You made it one of our best weekends ever, and I can’t express how much that means to us.
It was a whirlwind. Bouquets delivered to grocery stores earlier in the week flew off the shelves, and by 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, there was already a line of cars forming on our dirt road. My mom and I scrambled to get everything ready—and from that moment on, it was nonstop.
Throughout the weekend, I kept making bouquets, wanting every single customer—even the one who pulled in at 4:15 p.m. on Sunday—to have a beautiful selection to choose from. We saw neighbors, family, friends, and both familiar and brand-new faces. It reminded me why we took the leap to build The Flower Shack four years ago.
Thinking about starting a roadside stand? Do it. If we can make it work in the middle of nowhere in western Pennsylvania, you can too.
No Slowing Down After the Weekend
After such a big weekend, you’d think we’d slow down—but not quite! Our team worked so hard this week: planting 20,000 seedlings, harvesting flowers, filling grocery and florist orders, and making sure the farm kept moving forward.
We also welcomed back our college summer help, which was a great boost. After months of tending to seedlings in trays, it was incredibly satisfying to see them finally tucked into the fields.
Spring Concert Season and... More Chicks
Outside the farm, life kept rolling along too. This week brought both the junior high and elementary school spring concerts. Sitting in the auditorium, watching my girls sing and play their instruments, filled my heart with so much pride and gratitude. These are the moments that make the chaos worth it.
And because I love a full plate, I added 10 more chicks to our chicken flock. Because why not? A little more chaos, a little more joy.

Goodbye, Frost—Hello, Growth
The weather finally started to feel like spring. After waking up last Saturday to ice on the car and frost on the grass, I’m crossing my fingers that the cold is behind us. The warmer temperatures and recent rain were a blessing for all the newly planted seedlings—we’re off to a strong start.
Grateful, Always
If you’ve made it this far, thank you. I’m grateful every day for your support, encouragement, and love for local flowers. Whether you came to The Flower Shack, bought a bouquet at a grocery store, or just read along here—you’re a part of this flower-filled journey.
