From Shipping to Sunflowers: A Whirlwind Week on the Farm

A Week That Wouldn’t Sit Still

Have you ever had one of those weeks where every time you try to sit down, something pulls you in a different direction? That was me all last week.

Between harvesting tulips (sometimes three times a day), packing up the final orders, hauling seedling trays to the field, and just being “mom” when my girls were home from school—I was spinning in every direction.

It was beautifully chaotic and a perfect reminder that spring doesn’t wait for anyone.

Our team working on pulling the last of our heirloom mum orders for the season.

Shipping Season: Complete!

Last Tuesday, we officially wrapped up shipping for the season. All of our dahlia tubers and heirloom mum rooted cuttings are now on their way to gardens across the country. Watching that final UPS truck roll down the driveway felt like a quiet victory.

Each order was carefully packed by hand with care and gratitude. To every single customer who placed an order—thank you. Your support helps keep this small Pennsylvania farm going strong and allows us to keep our incredible team employed year-round.

It’s still surreal that flowers and plants from our farm are growing in so many homes across the country. What a dream come true.

From Boxes to Bouquets

With shipping behind us, we flipped our packing room into full bouquet mode. The flowers don’t slow down just because we’re tired!

We delivered our first grocery store bouquets of the season last week—full of bright, cheerful spring blooms. Seeing them back on shelves felt like a deep breath after months of prep.

A Close Call With Spring Storms

Midweek, we watched the weather radar closely as a powerful line of storms moved toward us—forecasting 80 mph winds. I walked the fields right before it hit and looked at the sky, whispering, please don’t take our tunnels.

We tightened everything down and waited. Thankfully, the storm broke apart before reaching us—no damage, no power outages, just a lot of gratitude and relief.

Seeds, Soil & Sunflowers

By the end of the week, we were back out in the field, planting thousands of seedlings. It felt good to have our hands in the soil again.

And the first sunflowers of the season went in! That always feels like a turning point—the unofficial start of summer on the farm.

Family, Flowers & Mother’s Day

Over the weekend, my mom (Margie) and my two oldest daughters, Isabel and Anna, helped me harvest loads of ranunculus and anemones in the rain. It was muddy and wet, but the flowers were gorgeous, and we were all smiling. These are the moments I’ll remember.

And now—it’s Mother’s Day Week. Our Super Bowl in the flower world.

If you're local to Pittsburgh, you can find our bouquets in select Giant Eagle and Market District stores (we’ll post locations on social media as we deliver).

And of course, The Flower Shack at the farm will be open Thursday through Sunday with special Mother’s Day hours, fully stocked with fresh spring flowers for moms, grandmas, neighbors—or yourself.

Grateful Beyond Words

Whether you've made a purchase or just follow along with us week after week, thank you. Your support allows us to keep growing flowers, raising our families, and doing the work we love.
